NACCHO Webinar: Reverse the Cycle: A Model to Respond to Hospital-based Substance Use Disorder

Oct 22, 2020 | Kim Rodgers

Despite the ongoing opioid crisis and a new record high for overdose deaths last year, many day-to-day overdose prevention and response activities have been suspended or are operating at a reduced capacity. Learn about how some public health and hospital organizations are working together to reverse the cycle of Substance Use Disorder (SUD). NACCHO and a national public health consulting firm, Mosaic Group have implemented a model for reducing SUD in six local communities. Mosaic Group has been working with hospitals since 2014 to improve their care for patients with risky substance use behavior. The team at Mosaic Group created the Reverse the Cycle model which is a comprehensive substance use response program that includes universal screening of all patients for risky substance use behavior, peer-to-peer interventions with high-risk patients, the initiation of Medications for Opioid Use Disorder and intensive community-based outreach with patients following an overdose. This work has been done in urban and rural hospital settings and relies on partnerships with local public health authorities. This webinar will focus on review of the Reverse the Cycle model and offer insight on program implementation in the midst of COVID while also highlighting the experience of one hospital partner.

NACCHO invites you to join this webinar on Thursday, October 29th from 3-4PM ET . This call is open to all members of local health departments as well as other community partners who are interested in this topic. Attendance is capped at 500, so please register early.
