Funding Opportunity: Embedding Peers in Emergency Departments

Oct 12, 2022 | Andrea Grenadier

NACCHO, with support from the CDC, is pleased to announce a funding opportunity for the Embedding Peers in Emergency Departments (EPED) program.

This funding opportunity provides an opportunity to embed peer recovery specialists in emergency departments to improve linkages to care for people who use drugs (PWUD). Local Health Departments (LHDs), hospitals, and other community partners will design, implement, maintain, and evaluate a set of protocols to screen patients in the ED for substance use. Eligible patients will be connected with a peer recovery specialist to discuss hospital based MOUD induction, links to ongoing community based MOUD, other treatment options, and/or available harm reduction services. Full details of the project outline and requirements can be found in the Request for Proposals.

This funding opportunity is open to Local Health Departments (LHDs). NACCHO will select up to five (5) LHDs to award through this funding opportunity. Each applicant may request up to $300,000 to support project activities.

Access the online submission platform here (free MyNACCHO account required). Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, November 18, 2022 at 11:59 pm EST. Submissions after this deadline will not be considered.

NACCHO will host an optional informational webinar on October 20, 2022 at 2:00 PM EST to discuss the funding opportunity and respond to questions. Register for the webinar here. Registrants will be able to continue registering after the webinar date to receive a recorded version.

If you have any questions, please email [email protected].
