Introducing CIFOR Guidelines Learning Modules

Jan 02, 2024 | Anu Varma

The Council to Improve Foodborne Outbreak Response (CIFOR) is a multidisciplinary, collaborative group of food safety experts.

The CIFOR Learning Modules provide summaries of the CIFOR Guidelines, a comprehensive resource for state, local, tribal, territorial, and federal agencies involved in foodborne disease investigation and control. The modules cover topics such as legal preparedness, planning and preparation, surveillance and outbreak detection, control measures, and multi-jurisdictional outbreaks. After completing these modules, learners should seek additional information in the 3rd edition CIFOR Guidelines and partner with other professionals to apply key points in practice.

Each of the eight modules has an estimated completion time of 20 minutes. The system will keep track of where you left off if you need to take a pause and come back later. A quiz is presented at the end of each module, completion of which opens the opportunity for continuing education credits.

Audience

This course is intended for anyone who works in the fields of foodborne disease epidemiology, environmental health and sanitation, public health laboratory science, and food regulation. Additional audiences include all public health and clinical laboratory staff, microbiology and public health students, healthcare professionals, the food industry, and food testing laboratories. The level of instruction is for entry-level learners.

Objectives

  • Explain rapid and continuous changes in aspects of food safety.
  • Identify the roles of key organizations in foodborne disease outbreaks.
  • Describe the main components of the foodborne disease surveillance and outbreak investigation framework.
  • Recognize key performance metrics for foodborne illness programs.

Register for free at aphl.docebosaas.com/learn/signin to attend the course.

Continuing Education: The Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E.® Program and CPH-recertification. P.A.C.E.® is accepted by all licensure states except Florida. This activity will provide 2.5 contact hours for participants who successfully complete this training by October 23, 2025. Learners who are looking for Environmental Health CEs should go to neha.org/continuing-education to learn more.
