A Multifaceted Approach to West Nile Virus Control

Since the introduction of West Nile Virus (WNV) in the Stamford Connecticut area, WNV-positive mosquitoes have been trapped in various local environments: coastal, rural, and urban. Mosquito trapping is conducted in wetland environments, breeding forest areas, and coastal marsh areas, each requiring different control methods. The various control methods are important when discussing how to control mosquito habitats with a property owner. Methods to address mosquito breeding habitats range from tire removal, cleaning standing water, chlorinating or covering pools, or even removing above ground pools.
